Information about SHIVNERI FORT
Shivneri FORT is the birth place of CHHATRAPATI SHIVAJI MAHARAJ.
Shivneri Fort is a 17th-century military fortification located near Junnar in Pune district in Maharashtra, India. It is the birthplace of Shivaji, the founder of Maratha Empire.
Junner is a village at the foot of Shivneri FORT.
Junner is a village at at foot of Shivneri Fort, from there are two routes to go to the fort on which there are 7 doors. It means Mahadarwaja, Pawangi darwaja, Hatti darwaja, Peer darwaja,and Kulabkar darwaja. Second route means chain route;these route takes you quick to the fort but it is a thrilling experience to walk on steep carved edges. While going on these route ancient carving of Shalivahan can be seen.
On the way to the Fort ,there is a temple of Shivaidevi. It is people strong faith that on the name of this goddess, Jijabai kept the name of her son Shivaji.
On the top of the Fort, there are Koli Chauthara ,spacious Ambharkhana, Ganga Jamuna water tank for drinking water.
HISTORICAL IMPORTANCE
The birthplace of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is an important place on the Fort. On 19 February 1630 Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was born. Every Indian when visit this place bows his head respectfully.
But the surprising thing is that the Fort where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was born , could not be brought Swaraj by him. Further it was included in Swaraj at the time of Peshwai.
In in the the surroundings of Shivneri Hadsar, Chawand, Jivdhan, Harishchandragad are forts and Lenyadri, Ozar are the the places of worship. In the the modern period Government built a monument Shivkunj, in which statues of Jijabai and Bal Shiva have been carved.
Every year, thousands of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj followers visit the the inspirational place to celebrate the Shivjayanti with great enthusiasm.
