     Durgadurgeshwar, RAIGAD is fort which gives the memories of Rajyabhishek ceremony of Chhatrapati SHIVAJI MAHARAJ. The huge fort is in KONKAN, 24 km away from Mahad. When CHHATRAPATI SHIVAJI MAHARAJ won Jawli from More, he got this important Fort. He observed the fort from all sides and then he decided to make it captain of Swaraj  . From onwards RAIRI was called as RAIGAD. 


The work ok done by HIROJI INDULKAR on RAIGAD is tremendously surprising. Spacious RAJWADA, HUGE NAGARKHANA, a vast lake like GANGASAGAR, beautiful tall Towers built   to have a watch.  SPACIOUS RAJSABHA, a   very wide RAJMARG, market place on both the sides of the RAJMARG in straight lines, JAGDISHWAR, S temple etc. are some of the structures which are still present here. 
 
At the foot of the fort in PACHAD, there is JIJABAI palace and samadhi. From KHUBLADHA bastion or NANA DARWAJA situated there is a straight and steep road to the fort. We enter the fort through GOMUKHI MAHA DARWAJA situated between the JAI-VIJAY bastion. 
The execution point'TAKMAK TOK' is a cliff from which the sentence prisoners were thrown to their death. This highlights the law and order

situation in SWARAJ. Other than this, there are BHAVANI TOK, HIRKANI BURUJ2, WAGH DARWAJA and many more points worth seeing. 

Historical Importance


"RAJSINHASAN" a throne is the important place on RAIGAD. Hera, in 1674 SHIVAJI MAHARAJ became CHHATRAPATI. Every Indians heart was field with joy by "THE RAJYABHISHEK" of SHIVAJI MAHARAJ. The the statue of Shivaji Maharaj sitting on throne is there on the fort day. 
CHHATRAPATI SHIVAJI MAHARAJ died in 1680 here. In front of JAGDISHWAR TEMPLE, there is SAMADHI of SHIVAJI MAHARAJ. When we visit this place, our soul is moved by the great memories of him. 
Most of the history lover's gather on the fort on the day of Death Anniversary and Anniversary of RAJYABHISHEK of SHIVAJI MAHARAJ. Now 'rope way' facility is available to go on to the fort. RAIGAD is prestigious fort of INDIA.
