 Information about the historical fort SAJJANGAD. 



Sajjangad is only 10 kilometer from SATARA and blessed by the residence of SAMARTH RAMDAS SWAMI. Ashwalayan rushi had lived here long ago. So, it was earlier named as Ashwalayangad. It is also called as Aswalgad or Parli fort. Aurangjeb named it as Navarastara but it is well known as Sajjangad by the people. 

HISTORICAL IMPORTANCE 



On the fort there are many things worth seeing like Ghodale and Sonale lakes, the place from where Kalyanswami jumped, Idol of Anglai devi found in the pond of Angapur. In addition to these, various things used by SAMARTHA are also kept there which include his crutch, a sword stick, danda, sota, two big water pots and many more things. 

Shivaji Maharaj insisted that SAMARTHA RAMDAS SWAMI should stay here. SAMARTHA built RAM mandir here. Immediately after the death of SHIVAJI MAHARAJ in 1681 A. D. RAMDAS SWAMI also died. 

On the fort, worshipping and looking at the idols of Ram, Laxman and Seeta make our souls happy. There is SAMADHI of SWAMI RAMDAS in a basement exactly below the temple. 

SAMARTHA awakened people at the time, when the country was not independent and people were frustrated. By his words "Work is Worship" People were inspired. 



In the difficult task of establishment of Swaraj, he united the people and encouraged them to support Shivaji Maharaj. 

The environment on the fort is quite serene. The saints in RAMDAS sampraday stay in the fort. Bhajan, kirtan, aarti, pravachan, shlok reading and other religious events go on continuously here. Because of these spiritual things there is a scared environment. Followers gather on the fort for celebrating RAMNAVMI and DASNAVMI. 

To the West side of the way to the fort, there is a small walk leading to a quiet cavern. Name of the cavern is Ramghal. From there, Urmodi river, Sajjangad and the resistance of SAINT RAMDAS  can be viewed.
